Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced in a tweet “We are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15.  All taxpayers and businesses will have additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties.”

In guidance issued earlier in the week, only payments (including the 1st quarter estimate payment) were included in the extended July 15 deadline.  Now the actual filing of returns matches the earlier extension for payments.

Similarly Indiana and other states are also extending their respective deadlines to July 15.  This action will help the many taxpayers who are not able to comply with the April 15 deadline due to various consequences related to the Coronavirus crisis.
